Our House Blend of coffee is the backbone of our espresso offerings and our most popular coffee blend too. Just one taste and you’ll see why. Our version of the classic House Blend is a representation of two of our longest-standing relationships: a sweet, chocolaty coffee from Guatemala, and a tangy, fruity coffee from Costa Rica. Together, they balance each other out and have a full body with notes of brown sugar.
We use an artisan roasting method to roast our coffee that is friendly for the environment. Our small batch European drum roaster is outfitted with environmentally friendly afterburners, substantially reducing roasting emissions well below industry averages. All of our coffee is roasted at our own Roaster to ensure premium freshness. You can taste this in every sip you take!
Our House Coffee blend of coffee beans is made up of beans grown and sourced in Costa Rica. We have had a long-standing relationship with our coffee growers in Costa Rica as part of our Farm Friendly Direct program. The La Hilda Estate partnership began in 1998. While Costa Rica enjoys a higher standard of living than most coffee growing regions, its rural communities lag behind more developed countries when it comes to technology. Human Bean representatives helped to hire a computer instructor and establish internet access at La Hilda Estate School. The school is located on the farm property and serves to teach the children of farmworkers. About 40 students are taught 3 days per week. In conjunction with the studies, a pen-pal program with students in Portland Public Schools Spanish Immersion programs has been created to connect students from both continents. Keeping young people connected with their peers of diverse communities and heritage serves to broaden worldly understanding and acceptance.
